New documents after loss or theft - what to do?
Anyone who does not find their wallet or purse will get panicked. Lost, stolen? If everything has been searched without success, you have to make an emergency plan with a clear mind.
It takes a lot of time and patience to replace all cards, ID cards and so on. It is best to write a letter with a loss report to the authorities and institutions. Then new biometric passport photos are necessary. First of all, you need a "temporary identity card" if it has been lost or stolen. Because only with it you get new maps and other documents.
ID cards:
ID card: Replacements are available at the registration office. If the ID card is reported as stolen, the authority automatically forwards a loss report to other offices. It takes 4 to 6 weeks for the new ID card to be ready. The costs vary by region. It is possible to have a? Provisional identity card? to apply. The is issued immediately, is valid for three months and costs extra. Bring along: 3 passport photos, birth certificate or family book.
Passport: Replacements are available at the registration office. As with the identity card, a loss report is forwarded there automatically to other offices. It takes up to 6 weeks for the new ID card to be ready. Important: Take 3 biometric passport photos, an old passport or ID card for identification! A new passport with 32 pages costs 37.50 euros for persons under 24 years and 59.50 euros for older ones.
Goes the passport abroad Lost, German Embassy, Consulate or Honorary Consulate issue a travel document. Cost: at least 25 euros. With this travel card the return to Germany is possible. If you want to visit another country before your trip home, you need a temporary passport. Cost: at least 39 euros. Travelers should definitely take multiple photocopies of the passport and store separately. The documents help the embassy to quickly issue a passport kit.
Health insurance card: Immediately inform the health insurance company about the loss. She sends a new card for free. If you lose your cash card often, you have to expect that the health insurance makes trouble and issues only treatment certificates.
Employee ID: Replacements are available at the personnel department of the respective company. A new biometric passport photo is required.
Pensioner's card: There is the German pension insurance. This one needs his insurance number and sends the authority a loss notice.
Severely handicapped: Responsible are the supply offices of the municipalities. The regulations vary depending on the state. It is usually enough to send a short loss report and a new passport photo to the authorities. Who goes personally to the office, must take the photo.

Car registration: Replacement is available at the registration office. You have to bring along the vehicle registration document and in case of theft the police report. For vehicles older than three years you have to submit TÜV certificate and emission certificate. The applicant receives the new vehicle registration immediately. The costs vary by region.
Driver's license: The driving license office in the registration office issues a new one. You must bring your ID and biometric passport photo and in case of theft the police report. In case of loss, an affidavit must also be given, cost: 30.70 euros. The waiting period is four to six weeks. Cost nationwide: 35 euros. Until the new document is available, you must have a temporary ticket to drive a car, cost depending on the region 35 to 40 euros. If you want to have the document very fast (express ticket), 15 to 35 euros are added.
Money Card
EC card: The card immediately after loss by phone at the emergency number of the bank or the central emergency call 116 116 (in Germany) or 0049-116 116 (from abroad) lock! The locking is very important because of the liability for possible damages. The customer is liable before the time of the notification, after which the bank is liable for damages (exception: the bank is not liable if the thief uses the card and quickly uses the PIN). If the debit card has been stolen, the person concerned must also report to the police and submit this notification to the bank. A new debit card is available at the house bank. Usually there are no costs, if so, they are 10 euros.
Credit card: As with the debit card, lost or stolen credit cards must be blocked immediately. In case of theft, a report is to be made to the police. The blocked phone numbers from Germany are different depending on the credit card: Mastercard: 0800? 819 10 40; VISA: 0800? 811 8440; American Express: 069 - 97972000. BahnCard: Replacement is available at the counter for 15 euros. It takes about one week to order from the replacement card to delivery by post. You get it immediately as an expression when you make the order online. For this you have to be registered at bahn.de.The provisional BahnCard is also available at the vending machine with the entry of a code. Time tickets for local traffic: Personal season tickets for public transport will be refunded if lost. In the service center of the responsible transport company, you must present your identity card and sign a loss report. Also customer cards of students, students and trainees will be replaced. There is no substitute for the tokens of weekly or monthly tickets.

Bonus booklet for dental treatment: Replacement is available at the health insurance. Registrations with stamps are applied for in practice, in which the screening examinations and treatments were made.
Birth certificate: You need them to get a marriage certificate and a death certificate. Replacement for the birth certificate is available at the registry office of the birthplace. There you can apply by letter or e-mail or in person. You have to pay the fee in advance.
vaccination certificate: A replacement vaccination certificate is available from the doctor. The necessary data are in the patient file. If the doctor's office no longer exists, you have to get new vaccinations.
Mobile phone SIM card: Call immediately at the general call center for EC, credit and mobile phone cards: in Germany 116 116, from abroad (0049) 116 116. After loss or theft immediately lock the SIM card so that no one can use the phone. The emergency number from the operator is in the instructions for use of the mobile phone. Locking the SIM card is mostly free.
My advice: the emergency handkerchief. To do this, label several tissue handkerchiefs with permanent felt tip pen. Write all important phone numbers for emergencies on the handkerchief and put them in clothes, suitcases, shopping and handbags. Even the cell phone with all the data you can lose a handkerchief rather not!
