End for analogue TV - problems with digital reception?
Until the end of October 2018, analogue cable television will continue to be switched off in Germany. Affected are 9 federal states: Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia, Saxony, NRW, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg. Many TV viewers have no problems, as the conversion goes without interference. The new channels in HD quality only need to be searched and sorted. Devices that are older than 4 to 6 years can not do that most of the time. Then you have to buy special device (cable receiver), which is used between antenna cable and TV set.
But some devices have their pitfalls. For example, mine. It was suddenly black and I was black in the face - in anger. I have been busy for days. My luck: the TV is only 2 years old. He has the manual according to the function:? Fully integrated terrestrial / cable / satellite TV set (DVB T2 / C / S2).? So he is able to receive digital channels.
In the property management I was told to do a channel search. This was also on the info sheet from the television service, which is responsible for the system in the house. It's not that easy! You have to go to the menu and there under "Installation" u.a. ? Cable digital? Activate, etc. I had done that and started an automatic channel search. Then, with a lot of effort, did I number the new digital HD channels that I use the most? 20 out of 200!
After 2 days, the screen was black again. Something was probably not set correctly. I thought, what works on other devices, that must work here too. Everything back to the original state. So I did the following by remote:
- Open the menu
- with down-arrow to "Installation"
- OK. to press
- with down-arrow to? first installation?
- the question appears: Start initial installation with automatic station search? All settings are deleted. TV will be reset.?
- with left button on? Yes?
- OK. to press
Now starts a station search. That takes a long time. It shows how many stations are already there. When all are in the box, the search is finished. The program list includes TV channels and radio programs. Many, many radio stations can now also receive over the TV set, z. Eg Russia today. There is a lot of junk at the TV stations, but also something like KSB World, a Korean channel for teenagers. Totally exciting (for half an hour).
Of course all my information concerns only my device. Other models have different functions, but in principle they are similar. An initial installation has every device! And how to get there is indeed in the manual. The? TV will be reset? is for me personally no disadvantage, because I understand nothing of the technical details anyway. They have to vote, otherwise there will always be disturbances. In the original state, everything is set as required by the device at my location. And it worked!
