Plastic spoon fallen in top loader washing machine

I think a plastic spoon just by the narrow 2 cm wide gap between the drum and Waschzuber (= Waterproof container where the drum hangs in it) fallen. He could not be taken out again because the drum itself has no access panel (see operating instructions!).

If it had been a metal spoon, I would have tried with a string and a knotted magnet on the other end to fish it out (you have to somehow get through the narrow gap and round the drum ...).

But, as it was a plastic spoon, I used the benefits of a saline solution (like in the Dead Sea) so that the spoon floats back up by itself. Has worked wonderfully and immediately!

My approach:

  1. In the manual, see how many liters the washing machine sums up.
  2. Calculate 20% salt each on 1 L water to obtain a viable saline solution. Then buy the corresponding kilos of pure salt in the supermarket (as a precaution without any other additives such as iodine and fluorine, who knows what chemical reactions that could trigger in a washing machine ...)
  3. Take a 10-liter bucket and add exactly 10 L of water, as warm as possible, but not boiling, so that you do not get injured if you plummet ... (if possible, with bucket with measure lines inside to read, that makes the job easier ).
  4. Stir 2 kg of salt into the 10-liter bucket of warm water and stir until the salt is completely dissolved (because salt grains could cause undissolved "Stahlfra" in the washing machine, as well as with steel saucepans).
  5. Pour the salt solution into the toploader, cover to keep the heat so that even the last grain of salt dissolves in any case ...
  6. Mix the remaining buckets with salt solution and pour into the toploader. (Fill with the last bucket of saline solution then the spoon came up by itself!)
  7. Then immediately pump the saline solution out of the machine (just pump off with the appropriate button). Then run any program (without detergent, without laundry and without spin), so that the salt residues are completely removed.

As a precaution, I let water run through the machine a second time to make sure that absolutely no salt remains in the machine. For my 40 cm wide top loader, I used a total of 10 kg of salt to 50 L of water. Has cost me a total of 3.40 euros for the salt and of course the water and electricity, say a total of 5.- Euro. The Toplader washes again wonderfully and without any impairment.

In this way, many other objects can certainly be "washed out" of the machine. (Just try it in a small bowl of saline and a suitable item). My basic consideration: If even people on the salt water of the Dead Sea can simply swim like this, then surely most other material objects can do that too ...)
