Secure window without screws and drilling

A few months ago, a cat has moved in with us, which has now become quite large. We had decided to keep him as a flat-rate cat, because we live in a flat and a free access to the apartment is unfortunately not possible.

So that he still gets a lot of fresh air without the risk of falling out of the window, had a window lock ago. The problem was that we were not allowed to drill into plastic windows. From an acquaintance I took over this great idea, which I copied immediately. At first, I had some doubts as to whether that would last, but it really works great. We also have blinds in front of the window, but this was not a real obstacle.

You need material:

  • 4 wooden strips, 4 cm wide, which can be sawed to the required dimensions in the hardware store.
  • 4 flat angles (angular)
  • 4 angles
  • Holztacker
  • Rabbit wire (we first had net, but then switched)
  • cable ties
  • Screws and screwdrivers (possibly tiltable)
  • Possibly. wood paint

That's how it works:

Based on the dimensions of the outer window frame, one builds a frame from the milled slats, which is screwed together with the flat angles. It would be possible to paint the resulting wooden frame so that it is weatherproof, but that is not absolutely necessary.

On this wooden frame, you now attach the appropriately tailored rabbit wire. You can also take chick wire.

We first attached the wire to the wooden frame with some staple needles and then with cable ties that we tied around wood and wire at short intervals.

Now it was time to fasten it to the window:

For this you need the angles. As can be seen in the photo, we have these in the inner frame - first loosely - screwed into the wood. The location for the screw is determined by pressing the frame firmly to the plastic frame and clamping it with the bracket. The place with the hole in the angle, then marked on the frame. Phew, theoretically difficult to describe, in the photo it becomes clear.

Now you can push the frame diagonally out through the window. The loose angles can now be turned to the right place and screwed on. Possibly. you need a tiltable screwdriver. As a result, they pull the frame very firmly against the window, everything holds rock solid and you do not need to drill.

We have secured first kitchen and living room so the other rooms still follow. Of course, now you have a good excuse to scrub the windowsill from the outside, because then you can not get it off now * smile *. Of course you can unscrew the frame at any time!

Unbeatable here is above all the price of the whole. All in all, a window has not cost 10 euros, because we have bought the cheapest battens, a 2 m latte cost no 50 cents and you can still saw or even saws.

All in all, this is now the favorite spot of the "little one". Now in the spring, the balcony will follow! I will also secure this on the basis of this basic manual.
