Tinto de Verano - Refreshment in Spanish

Tinto de Verano could be translated as "red summer" or "summer red wine". Not to be confused with the well-known sangria. The Tinto de Verano became famous only at the end of the 20th century and was invented in the south of Spain, where it is the hottest.

I first tried it on a beach holiday in Cádiz ... must have been in the middle of the nineties. I became curious because all the people in the restaurant had such a red drink and then ordered it.

In Córdoba he is also called "Vargas". That's because he was first known there in a bar in the district of Brillante. The owner's name is Vargas and so the guests simply ordered a "Vargas" if they wanted a Tinto de Verano.

And that's how easy it is:

There are plenty of ice cubes in a tall glass, it comes in equal parts red wine (a normal table wine is enough) and Gaseosa, that is Spanish clear lemonade. Similar to Sprite, but not so cute.

If necessary, you can stretch the lemonade with mineral water. Then a slice of lemon ... done!

In Spain you can buy "Tinto de Verano" already mixed.

If you are looking for a non-alcoholic variant, you only have to replace the wine with grape juice.
