Avoid plastic bags when buying fruit and vegetables

At a fruit and vegetable counter of a supermarket I recently saw a young customer, who packed the desired fruit and vegetables in thin-meshed mesh bags. When I asked her where she got them from, she called the internet. I researched there once and found that these thin bags are not so cheap.

I came up with the idea to sew these bags myself, to save the thin plastic bags, which you can hardly reuse anyway after use.

Since they can weigh only a little, I have taken as a scrapped Tüllgardinen, these cut into strips of different width, shortened the strips of suitable length, folded in half and sewn together at the side seams with a wide and narrow zigzag stitch. You can now sew the top around a wide and pull in the resulting fabric tunnel a drawstring or a rubber band. Who wants it very noble, sews a zipper, but then makes the bag heavier again.

The tulle material has the advantage that at the cash register can be seen what the bag contains, also the weight sticker sticks to the material, at least until you pass through the cash register. If necessary, you can also put it in the bag. Since it is transparent, most point-of-sale scanners manage to read the price through the fabric.

So far, these bags have not been complained to me at any checkout and my market traders are always happy when I give them my tulle bags for my purchase.
