Bread with ham and cheese

I like to make this bread casserole as a remainder, e.g. if the toast is already close to the expiry date. The casserole is quick and makes no effort - but tastes very delicious.

8 slices of toast (I take whole wheat toast)
some white wine or broth
cooked ham (8 slices or more)
4 eggs, separated
200 g of grated cheese (I take middle-aged Gouda)
100 ml of cream or milk
Salt, pepper, nutmeg, paprika

Whisk the egg whites with a pinch of salt and place in the fridge. Toast the bread and moisten with wine or stock. Cover the toast with the ham and layer in a casserole dish. Stir egg yolks with cream or milk and the cheese and season vigorously. Stir in the whipped egg whites. Pour the mass over the toasts and bake at 220 degrees top / bottom heat for 30 minutes.

This tastes best of course a mixed salad.
