Flytrap for fruit flies, wasps and flies

There are already many tips on the subject and the origin of my fly trap is also on the Internet, but I have simplified and improved by experimenting with it.

Production & Tips

  • Fill one small vessel about half full with water, e.g. an old jam jar.
-> With a glass jar you can follow the success better, but of course that does not have to be.
  • Add 1 drop (not more!) Of rinse
-> This works very well if the Spüli is in an old pump bottle of liquid soap.
  • 1 sip of vinegar and fruit syrup each
-> I use old remains currant syrup and white balsamic I do not like to use for food anymore
  • Stir and smell, if we humans still smell the rinse, then the flies do too! If you still smell the rinse, just add a little vinegar / syrup until you do not smell it anymore.
--> If you do not smell the rinse, the trap is ready!

Now place the jar with the mush in there where most of the fruit flies frolic and then remove (if possible) what attracts the flies. For example, the gammeligen garbage bag in the rest bin, if you then maybe half a day without rest bin / fruit bowl / etc. Survived, the trap is particularly effective.

Fumbled Flytrap:

If that is not enough or if the flies fly out again and again, you can additionally install a physical Rausfliegschutz.

To do this, cover the "entrance" of the container with plastic wrap / cardboard or something, make sure that it rests tightly on the edge, so that the beasts do not crawl out again. Then you make a few holes in the opening, depending on the size of the desired prey. For fruit flies there are relatively small holes.

-> Advantage: So you catch fewer bees (if the holes are small enough and then, of course, no wasps), you save a little the poor little honey charms.

One last tip:

You can label the flytrap quietly, which can be very helpful with older children or roommates. With an old jam jar simply with the good black super-felt-tip pen directly on the glass, otherwise it also does a small sticky note that is clamped under the glass.
