Shorten cords without fraying

If cords are too long and you want to cut them partially, they often freak ugly. This has an end now:

Exactly at the point where I want to cut, I wrap a piece of wide Tesafilm very tightly around the cord. There I cut the cord in the middle in two parts - both ends can not be frayed by the Tesafilm piece still on them! This facilitates packing away until the next use or threading through a much smaller eyelet or a cord stopper.
