The Sugar Loaf: A delicious and healthy winter salad

A few years ago I discovered a very tasty and healthy salad with a vegetable subscription. His name is Sugarloaf. The heads are relatively large and like to weigh even 1 kilogram.

Sugarloaf tips:

I cut the salad into strips and then wash thoroughly in a salad spinner. Since the salad contains bitter substances, you can also let the sliced ​​sugar loaf in lukewarm water for one minute.

Sugarloaf tolerates a strong salad dressing, with mustard, onions, oil as desired, even cream fits. You can let him go. He does not collapse or draws water.


Mixed with tomatoes, peppers, carrots, celery, field salad you bring different varieties on the table.

Even apples and pears or oranges cut small refine the salad.

The sliced ​​sugar loaf can be kept in the fridge for several days, it does not get dark.


As a whole head he keeps with me for 3 weeks or longer in the fridge.

Sugarloaf is not in the supermarket. You can get it at the weekly market or like me at the organic farmer.

There are also recipes in which sugar loaf is cooked. I have not tried that yet.

Sugarloaf is in the lower range priced. Other winter salads are more expensive and not so rich. I have paid at the weekly market for 1 kilo just under 2 euros.
