Delicious pickled Bismarck herring with potatoes

Once again I really felt like pickled herring and had never prepared it myself before, but always ate in the restaurant or even brought it out of the supermarket and maybe then spiced it up a bit and refined it.

To 24.12. I once wanted to prepare the herring as a "simple" Christmas meal. Is actually quite easy and is relatively fast. They are very well done, I think.

ingredients

  • 1 apple
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 gherkins
  • some gherkin water
  • 1 onion
  • 1 glass of herrings (about 4 pieces)
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 200 g sour cream (sour cream)
  • a few tablespoons of mayonnaise (optional)
  • Salt, pepper and about 1/2 tsp sugar
  • fresh chopped dill, amount to taste

preparation

Step 1: Dice apple

The peeled apple is diced and stirred in a bowl immediately with the lemon juice.

Dice the peeled apple and mix with lemon juice.

Step 2: Dice the pickled cucumber and onion.

Cut the gherkin (s) and the onion (you can also cut the onion into fine rings, if you like) and add to the apple pieces.

Dice gherkins and onion.

Step 3: Prepare herring and gravy.

The cold-rinsed and dry-dabbed herring are placed on the apple, cucumber and onion cubes.

Sour cream, salt, pepper, sugar, dill, pepper, vinegar, stir a little cucumber water together and pass over the fish. The herring should be well covered with it! Now the whole thing comes for a few hours well sealed (lid or foil) in the refrigerator. The longer everything is pulled through, the better I think it tastes.

Pour sauce over the herrings.

Step 4: Season the sauce and refine with mayonnaise.

Before serving, I then added 3 - 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise and the sauce tasted a little more. The mayonnaise does not have to be, but the sauce gets a creamier taste, a slightly firmer texture and completes the whole thing for me.

Arrange nicely with salt or boiled potatoes ... and enjoy! That will surely happen again!

Serve with salt or jacket potatoes.
