Drainage for container plants with styrofoam chips

Styrofoam chips (you often do not know where to put them ...) always come down to the planter or balcony box or flower pot.

In the case of flowerpots, a layer of chips comes into the planter and the flower pot on top. Trying out whether it is actually Styrofoam by moistening the chip. Some packaging chips are made from cornmeal and they become mushy.
