Make old from old - pull potatoes on the balcony

Who has not thrown away old, wizened, expelling potatoes? I once tried a trick (was followed with great interest by my 4 children), which can also be realized on the balcony:

You need a plastic bin (just like the rainwater barrels just not so big). I once dusted two with someone who did not want them anymore. Sometimes mash is used for fruit brandy or cider in it.

At the bottom of the page at a height of approx. 10 cm, use the large 8-bit drill to make a hole as a water drain.

Then comes a layer of pebbles or potsherds or other suitable drainage down into the tub, green waste from the kitchen = compost; Anyone who has tree trimming (cut small so that air can circulate) to give it all together about 15 cm high.

Then comes 10 cm potting soil (quite cheap from the hardware store, you need so much that the bucket is completely full afterwards) easy on it.

On this "bed" you put the expelled warty old potatoes. (Take the 5 biggest ones, that's enough for the whole ton).

Now everything is covered with a layer of earth about 10 cm high. Pour something (do not drown) ... and then wait.

After a few days, the potatoes, which you water gently daily (not too much), expelled and look out of the top of the earth.

When they are about 10 cm high, again put a layer of soil on it (cover the plants completely), pour gently.

And so it goes on, layer by layer, until the bucket is full.

So you have several floors later, where potatoes can grow. The whole bucket is then practically full of the 5, now of course about 80 cm high potato plants.

When the bucket is completely full, the potato plants are allowed to drift through, d. H. develop a plant with leaves and flowers. Looks really nice.

Since the whole story takes place on the balcony or terrace, there are no Colorado beetles or other pests. Fertilization is not necessary.

When the plants wither in autumn, it is time for harvest.

Now comes the trick:

The whole barrel is full of new potatoes. Of course, it has a lot of small ones (for jacket potatoes, kids are keen on the minis), but lots of medium size and a couple of big pounders.

You can then remove the soil layer by layer and has always new Kartöffeli. Nom nom nom ...

The earth can still be used for other plants.

I know you can buy potatoes in the supermarket easier, but we enjoyed it. And it is certainly BIO-goods ...

Just try it.
