Voucher for seniors: give away "time and meal"

Recently, the 80-year-old father of our neighbor unexpectedly invited us to the birthday party and, as always, the question stood in the room: What gives you? I do not like the usual typical gifts of seniors; but as I heard before that he likes hearty home cooking, we have given him "time and meal".

More important than a bottle of wine, chocolates, a book or flowers are for many seniors visits and entertainment. Most of them live alone and are happy about every visitor who pulls them out of their everyday routine: Visits are enough for that.

We have combined this with a voucher and the following has emerged:

A voucher for three hearty meals, which we will bring along during our visits microwaveable suitable for later consumption. (Three meals are here with this coupon for reasons of space rather symbolically meant and indicate neither the number of expected visits nor the courts)

The following things are needed:

  • 1 place set
  • 2 cooking spoons
  • 2 cable ties
  • 3 small paper plates (for children)
  • Geschenkband
  • Plastic cutlery (recyclable or symbolically cut out of cardboard)
  • Royalty expressions of food to be prepared and given away
  • Laminator (optional), scissors, tesa and glue

This is how it's done:

  1. First, the two wooden spoons are attached to the place set by means of cable ties (see photo 1).

  2. From the Internet, photos of the dishes you want to "give away" are selected, labeled, printed out and (optionally) laminated by a photo editing program.

  3. The round-cut prints are stuck in the middle of the prepared paper plates and hung with a gift ribbon on the wooden spoons, by fixing the tape on the back with adhesive tape.

  4. A laminated sign "Voucher", centered on the spoons, completes the gift.

The background of the voucher is to give time and to enjoy every visit with (preferred) home cooking after the visit.

What most seniors like:

  • wrong chop (breaded pork belly)
  • Eisbein with potato mash and sauerkraut
  • neck chop
  • "thick" stews with belly meat or Mettwurst
  • Oxtail soup (homemade with meat inlay)
  • Mashed potatoes with boiled bacon and fried onions
  • Goose leg, dumplings, red cabbage
  • Sausage goulash with salted potatoes

Although these dishes may not be healthy, beating the strings from time to time makes you happy and content even at this age.
