Ash as a fertilizer for plants

A few days ago I got from my neighbor a small box filled with chimney as a gift and I must have looked at the opening of the box perplexed, because he said only this way: "I think you see clearly too often horror movies"!

Well, not everyone gets a tin full of ashes. He said that was from him over the winter collected chimney ashes and I should use for my plants.

He collected them and kept them in a dry place and used them as fertilizer in spring and autumn. I have to mention that it must be the ashes of untreated wood, but I think you do not burn something like that anyway.

The ash is full of minerals, e.g. Magnesium, phosphorus ... that's good for plants. Also she should be a good snail defense.

I also put something in the soil of houseplants.
