Non-slip cushion for the cat transport basket

So that our cats travel more comfortably and do not slip around while driving, I have made a suitable upholstery with washable cover for their transport basket. The cushion is attached with two Velcro tapes, which were glued to the bottom of the transport boxes and sewn to the underside of the cover.

Required materials:

  • 1 piece of fabric in the right size (see sewing instructions)
  • 1 cut piece of foam (dimensions = bottom of the transport basket)
  • 2 strips Velcro in the appropriate length: 1 top to sew, 1 bottom to stick

Steps:

  1. First, the inner bottom of the box is appropriate: For best measure only the flat part of the floor, since the pillow bulges at the edges otherwise.
  2. Next, a suitable piece of foam is cut to size.
  3. Then the cover is sewn. A simple sewing instruction for a pillow cover with hotel closure can be found on the Internet and video tutorials are available on YouTube. For this type of pillowcase no great sewing skills are necessary - only correct and accurate dimensions are important!
  4. Then two strips of Velcro are sewn to the cover and glued to the bottom of the transport box. If you want a more stable attachment, you can also sew longer pieces of Velcro on the long sides of the cover and stick it in the box.
  5. Finally, the foam is inserted into the envelope and fastened in the transport basket.

Variant:

Alternatively to normal cotton, a coated / waterproof fabric could be chosen - if the animal experiences a misfortune during transport, it would be washable and the foam would not suffer. Also in this variant, a cotton cover can be sewn for comfort in addition.

I opted for the simpler version - if anything happens I can wash the cover at 60 degrees in the washing machine and I would simply renew the foam.

Our cats are excited and even like to drive a car in their basket.
