My favorite soup - "Bibbelsches Bohnesupp" (Saarland)

Recipe for "Bibbelsches Bohnesupp" - that's what it's called here in Saarland.
ingredients for 4 persons
- 500 g of rod or bush beans
- 5 medium potatoes
- 400 g of bacon
- savory
- 1.5 tsp granulated broth
preparation
- Peel potatoes and cut into cubes.
- Cut beans into pieces about 1.5 cm in size.
- Put both in a sieve and wash.
- Put a pot of 1.5 L of cold water on and add the bacon, bring to a boil and simmer for about 30 minutes over low heat. Add a heaped teaspoon of savory (rubbed) and add 1.5 teaspoons of granulated broth towards the end.
- After the 30 minutes, add the washed potatoes and beans. Boil and simmer for another 30 minutes. Do not salt, as the bacon already contains enough salt.
- Remove bacon from the pot, cut rind and cut into small pieces.
- Pour the bacon into the plates and fill with the soup. As a Saarlander, I add a dash of whipped cream to my soup. Then the soup is perfect for me.
