Tighten knitted cap

In an English knitting ravelry for a beanie I read that you should still tighten the cap. Spannen as such is clear, but with a cap I would never have come on it alone. The genius, however, is that it is proposed to stretch the cap over a balloon, which supports the shape of the cap due to its spherical shape. That's why:

  • inflate a balloon
  • Measure with a tape measure the desired width and adjust accordingly, then knot the opening
  • Wash the cap - I then wrapped it in a terry towel for half an hour and pre-dried it so that it was no longer dripping wet, but just wet
  • Carefully pull the cap (not too wide) over the balloon
  • Put a balloon on a container where it does not "sink" - so he can not roll away
  • Wait until the cap is completely dry

My personal conclusion:

The pattern with the tension threads has come to life beautifully due to the tensioning and thus smoothing of the threads!

If possible, after half a day, put the cap over a second, freshly inflated balloon the same width, since the old air has now escaped and he has lost in circumference.

The only point of criticism: The carefully executed 3cm wide edge with the very elastic Norwegian socks stop has fallen victim to this process: After drying it was not as elastic as in its original state ...
