Again and again you hear of food poisoning, especially when raw chicken is cut and the same cutting board is then used for vegetables. Always change!

Wood cutting boards, which are thoroughly dried in the oven for 10 minutes at 200 degrees after thorough rinsing, are hygienically harmless. On a surface that is dry like the desert, the bacteria do not survive.

You can sprinkle the boards, or even a big chopping block, with salt overnight, then remove them the next day. This procedure also kills the bacteria.

Plastic and glass boards can indeed in the dishwasher and are then completely clean.
