This lemon syrup is very easy to make yourself.

ingredients

  • (all) leaves of a lemon verbena
  • 4 lemons
  • about 300 g of sugar

You can get lemon verbena from any garden center, or you can order it in March, April via the internet.

preparation

  1. Take a 3 liter pot and add one and a half liters of water. This one heats. The water must not boil, but only boil.
  2. Personally, I take all the leaves of the lemon verbena and put them in my pot. This is a matter of taste, I like the verb taste more intense.
  3. Then I take the four lemons and brush them, cut them small, whether you slice them, or quarter or make small corners, is left to your imagination.
  4. So and then the most important thing ... the sugar. I do not like it so sweet and so take about 300 g of sugar, you can take more. If you are not sure, start with less, and keep trying, you can choose your own sweetness.
  5. This brew is left to simmer for about half an hour.
  6. Cover the pot in a place where it does not bother to leave for seven days. I am fortunate to have a balcony and put my pot and its contents there.
  7. After seven days, I can pass everything through a sieve into another pot and boil everything, fill the syrup to the brim of the bottles and close the lid. This has the advantage that it is durable.
  8. Let the bottles cool, done.

You can also easily make jelly like this:

You take verbena, lemons, if you like, oranges or tangerines. What's your taste. Crush it, heat it. I always leave it for two days. Very important, no sugar! Then pour through a sieve and process with jelly sugar three to one to jelly.
