Soda and spelled litter as a smell killer in a small animal cage

Soda and spelled litter as a smell killer in a small animal cage.

My kids, my husband and I are big animal friends. Among other things, we also keep several guinea pigs in our small "private zoo". The cage is in the room of my youngest and is regularly cleaned completely, once or twice a week. Nevertheless, it sometimes "smelled" quite intense, because I have a very fine nose, I was getting increasingly annoyed.

I've tried different types of litter, but nothing really helped. Until I discovered spelled litter in the pet shop. That was better with the smell.

And since after every cleaning of the cage on the cage floor a bag (50 g) of soda is sprinkled and on the spelled litter, there is nothing to smell. It only smells of hay. The advice with the soda was revealed to us by a friendly veterinarian.

The spelled litter is more expensive than other litter, but you need less litter over time. In the "critical corners" the litter is changed every two days and since then the cage only needs to be completely cleaned every one and a half to two weeks - without a strong smell.
