The best gift for the 18th birthday

This idea has betrayed my grandmother before the first birthday of my son. The idea is that once a year on my birthday, I give my child a letter I wrote by hand. The letter is not opened directly. All letters should be collected until the little one gets big, that is, of age!

What are these letters about?

1. At the beginning of every letter, I began my beautiful son's birthday wishes. Since the birthday wishes should be special for your own child, you should of course try to be creative and not use the same words every year. But you also know that yourself!

2. After that, I told my son about his development phases this year, in which I wrote the letter. With each letter you remind your child of all his progress, according to age. His first steps, words, the painful separation from the diapers or the sucking and further progress I have incorporated in every letter in detail. His personality development, his own special traits were noted in the same way on the paper. Of course, you should document not only his likes and strong sides, but also his aversions and weaknesses. Only then is the development description complete! The gifts of the child at any age should be specifically mentioned in each letter! And remember, although the letters are written by one parent only, it is important to note that the other parent has played an important role in the child's development from the outset! For example, in my letters, I wanted to make it clear to my son that his dad supported him in his development as well. Of course only if this is true!

3. Important, actually happened events should also find their place in these letters. It does not have to be just positive. For example, I described in a letter how my little one broke his foot and arm in kindergarten age. Broken bones are of course no good. But how my son dealt with this very stressful situation and survived his physical injuries was just remarkable! Such positive events, such as the first day in kindergarten or with older children in school, are also included in the letter.

4. I would also advise you to include in your letter important friends or close relatives of your child who accompanied him during different periods of time. For a variety of reasons, the child sees some people who used to be the center of attention, later no longer (or not as often), and can not remember them so well in the future. Information about friendships from the neighborhood, kindergarten, and school, or about relatives who are not around at the moment, will help your great one recognize all these people!

5. All children have in their development certain phases in which they can imagine certain professions for their future. However, that can change over time. You can still hold on to the different phases and wishes. This can cause quite a bit of a smile later, when you finally see what happened to it.

6. At the end of each letter, I write to my son how much I love him and how important he is to me. So, your motherly or fatherly love will also stay in your handwritten letters and give your child a happy, soothing feeling while reading!

So that the letters do not look boring, I packed them in colored envelopes. All letters can be stored in an equally colorful storage box. I made small, sweet glue on the letters. So they look more like a gift!

You do not have to give away your beautiful letter collection for the 18th birthday. It may also be that your child is already ready to read it far in advance. Alternatively, you can give your gift for confirmation / communion or for the 16th birthday.
